One of my favourite zoos in the south east is the British Wildlife Centre. As its name suggests, it has examples of many animals that are native to Britain, everything from mice to wild cats.
The owls are always great to watch, and if you are lucky enough, you might catch them being flown around the arena.
I’ve visited the BWC many times and it’s great to try different seasons too. If you haven’t been, I highly recommend it.
